This Research Topic aims to compile imaging guidelines for Head and Neck region malignancies. Between different head and neck cancer sites, there are a wide variety of considerations that must be made by clinicians at all stages of disease progression and throughout the treatment cascade alike. Imaging of these cancers comes into play throughout both of these aforementioned processes, from initial diagnoses and staging, to the monitoring of treatment success, and to identification of metastasis to secondary sites around the body. To bring together guidelines of best practise for various Head and Neck site specific tumors will be of benefit to clinicians as a reference point in guiding clinical decision making, and optimizing outcomes for patients at all stages of their management pathways.
We look to attract the submission of Imaging Guidelines for Head and Neck cancers from authoritative, recognized oncology groups or societies from around the world. Submissions to this article collection should cover scientific statements and imaging guidelines on Head and Neck tumors relevant to the diagnosis, staging and management of the specified cancers. Statements/Guidelines must be supported by published and validated scientific studies (preferably meta-analysis and systematic reviews and original studies) and/or acknowledged expert panels. Statements/Guidelines will be reviewed by the Editorial Team and by reviewers for appropriateness and scientific rigor alike.
Submissions covering, but not limited to the points below shall be considered for publication within this collection;
1. Head and Neck cancer specific imaging based Reporting and Data Systems (RADS) and tumor response assessment criteria
2. Site specific imaging recommendations for diagnosis, staging and management of head, neck and skull base cancers including but not limited to;
-Nasopharynx carcinomas
-PNS tumors
-Oral cancers
-Larynx and hypopharynx cancers
-Salivary gland malignancies
-Thyroid and parathyroid malignancies
-Skull base malignancies
-Neck node imaging
-Carcinoma of unknown origin
-Orbital malignancies
-Rare tumors of the head and neck region
Please note: manuscripts that are solely based on bioinformatics or computational analysis of public databases without validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of scope for this section and will not be accepted as part of this Research Topic.
