As a result of recent international policies and priorities becoming aligned to raise awareness of (dis)ability per se, the profile and presence of adapted & (dis)ability sport at all levels has risen significantly. This has resulted in greater public, private and media engagement with adapted & (dis)ability sport globally, with more opportunities now available for involvement in, viewing of and research exploring adapted & (dis)ability sport than ever before. With such increases in societal awareness, position, participation, and support, comes the need to centralize, promote and enhance the status and profile of high-quality research and knowledge exchange being generated by researchers across ALL academic disciplines to better our understanding of EVERY aspect of adapted & (dis)ability sport. Our Adapted & (dis)Ability Sport Research Topic aims to be THE location for ALL adapted & (dis)ability sport research and knowledge exchange being undertaken worldwide.Research relating to adapted & (dis)ability sport is published predominantly in single discipline focused books or collections; is focused often on one sport, one adaptation or (dis)ability; is focused primarily on the Paralympics; is focused more broadly on the pedagogy of adapted physical activity and is usually hidden amongst significantly greater volumes of non-(dis)ability focused research in mainstream sport-related publications, and rarely available freely for the world to read. This crucial research has therefore largely, with few exceptions, remained hidden from broader and shared audiences and has had limited ability to stimulate further multi- or inter-disciplinary research or generate significant real-world impact across adapted & (dis)ability sport per se.Our Adapted & (dis)Ability Sport Research Topic aims to address this by creating a critical mass of research, knowledge exchange and authors representing all disciplines relevant to the study of adapted & (dis)ability sports.
