In recent decades, emerging and re-emerging viral infectious diseases, especially RNA livestock viruses and zoonotic RNA viruses (e.g. PRRSV, PEDV, RV, PDCoV, TGEV, SADS-CoV, ASFV, IBV, JEV, IAV) have been threatening the human health and breeding industry, resulting in immense economic losses worldwide. Immunotherapeutic strategies, such as vaccines and antivirals, have shown promising efficacy in the prevention and control of part infectious diseases.
While the problems faced by the existing strategies such as high variability of the viral genome, viral immunosuppression, immune escape, and low efficacy of vaccines, bring huge challenges to the broad applications of immunotherapeutic strategies. Therefore, it is urgent to deepen the studies on the virus-host interaction mechanisms to uncover economic and efficient therapeutic targets for the development of alternative immunotherapeutic approaches.
The goal of this research topic is to reveal novel immunotherapeutic strategies to halt viral infections, especially RNA livestock viruses and zoonotic RNA viruses, including but not limited to the development of efficient and safe immunomodulatory antiviral drugs, vaccines, and other alternative antiviral immunotherapeutic approaches.
This is with the aim of gaining a better understanding of host-virus interaction to uncover novel immunomodulatory antiviral targets. Through this article collection, we attempt to attract studies discussing the deficiencies and prospects of antiviral immunotherapeutic strategies.
