At present, environmental pollution has become a worldwide problem. Firstly, the excessive use of fossil energy has increased the emission of greenhouse gas. Using microorganisms and their enzymes to degrade biological materials to prepare fermentable sugars and produce liquid biofuels is an important method to develop biomass resources in an environment-friendly way. At the same time, it will not increase carbon emissions and can achieve zero carbon emissions, so it has important application perspectives.
In terms of biological degradation, the current research problem is the low efficiency of biological transformation. Therefore, it is necessary to continue to develop microbial resources and mutagenize related strains to enhance transformation efficiency and tolerate environmental factors, including by-products. While developing microbial strains, relevant hydrolases should be developed and mutation technology should be used to enhance the efficiency of enzymatic hydrolysis, including the reuse of immobilized enzymes.
This Research Topic is interested in research and review articles on the following areas/topics:
- Excavation of microbial strains and enzyme sources for efficient biomass conversion.
- Microorganisms and enzymes are comprehensively used to act on biomass to obtain important functional polysaccharides, fermentable oligosaccharides and bio liquid fuels, including bioethanol, biodiesel, biobutanol and biogas.
- Immobilize lipase, cellulase, hemicellulase, etc. with hydrogel and other materials to increase the utilization of enzymes.
