Due to the complexity of the oral environment, oral diseases need more matching treatment technologies. In recent years, the clinical application of biomaterials in the dental field has made significant development, providing promising solutions for treating dental defects and periodontitis. The exploration of disease mechanisms provides a theoretical fundament for designing specific bioactive materials. The research on the nanostructure of teeth provides a reference for biomimetic dental materials. Biomaterials with antibacterial properties can reduce the incidence of dental caries and other infectious diseases. Scaffolds with drug delivery ability show superior performance in the treatment of periodontal bone defects and other diseases. This topic focuses on the mechanisms and treatment of oral diseases and the advance of bioactive materials in the treatment of oral diseases.
To improve the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases, the mechanisms of some diseases need to be further clarified, such as the loss of periodontal supporting tissue and the relationship between the function of tooth hard tissue and its arrangement structure. Studying the microstructure of teeth is indispensable for designing materials with hardness and toughness similar to natural teeth. Understanding the mechanism of disease is vital for designing drug loaded materials to repair periodontal damaged tissue. This theme focuses on the mechanisms and treatment of oral diseases, moreover, the development of functional biomaterials for specific oral diseases.
